Background
Monarch Insurance Company Ltd (“Monarch”), founded in 1994, is a licensed microinsurer. Monarch has since 1994 engaged principally in the sale of customer protection insurance ("CPI”) to customers of Lewis Stores purchasing goods on an instalment sale basis. These CPI policies provide cover to credit customers of Lewis Stores in the event of death, disability, loss of income, or damage or loss to the goods.
New insurance products on offer
Monarch launched a new range of affordable insurance products in November 2023. The new range of insurance products are designed and priced to make it easier for lower-income consumers to access insurance products that are affordable, easy to understand, and cater to their specific needs. The new insurance products on offer are:
- Funeral benefit,
- Legal Expense cover,
- Household Contents cover,
- Homeowners Cover, and
- Personal Accident cover.
About the Group
Monarch is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lewis Stores (Pty) Ltd (“Lewis Stores”), which has since 1934 been selling furniture nationwide to all communities within the borders of South Africa and in later years to the BLNS countries as well. Lewis Group Ltd, the investment holding company of Lewis Stores has been listed on the JSE Limited since 2004.
